Many people today profess that God is their friend. But do they really consider Him a friend? God can be your best friend, the Bible says He sticks closer than a brother. But many people today don't know God on the personal level, they only seem to go to Him when they need something. How would you feel if one of your friends only talked to you when they needed something? You should not just pray when you are desperate, you should walk with Him daily.
In order to call God friend, you must know Him. You must know His likes and dislikes. Now how can you get to know what the Most High God likes and what He doesn't? You read His word!
Once you get to know God on a personal level, there is nothing you can't do! God can give you the power to move mountains, He'll give you power to heal the sick, raise the dead, cast out devils. Anything you can think of. God actually challenged me while I was praying one day. He said:
"Tell me the most ridiculous, impossible, irrational thing you can think of, and I can do it for you!"
I started to think of one thing after another, and each thing God told me He could easily do. The most ridiculous thing I could think of was the sun rising at midnight.
"I can do that with ease! You cannot think of one thing that I wouldn't be able to do for you, all you have to do is be love and trust me!"
I know I may sound crazy, but it's true. God does speak to me sometimes, and He can speak to anyone that listens.
He will gladly be your friend, it's the thing He wants most. He wants to be a part of your life.
However, many Christians think the price to pay for calling God their friend is too high. They would rather just go to church once a week, pay their tithes, pray for five minutes and spend the rest of the week living like heathens. That doesn't cut it. If you truly want to call God your friend, then you will try to live right. You may lose some of your friends, your family may disown you, you might even fall flat on your face, but the Lord will be right there to pick you up. My pastor talks about how when you first completely follow God, your whole life seems to fall apart. The whole world seems to be against you. But greater is He that is in me than he that is in the world. If God be for us, then who can be against us?
My last point is that Christians today seem to halfheartedly follow God. This can be a very dangerous thing. The Bible says God would rather you be hot (serving God) or cold (serving the Devil), not lukewarm (trying to serve God while still being a part of the world). A man cannot serve two masters. You either serve Jesus, or you serve Satan. If you are a friend of the Devil (not a good idea, because he will betray you), you can't be a friend of God.
God bless you all =)
I love this because i have recently been born again and yeah my world is crashing down, i feel like this is a way of God telling me to trust in Him and rely on His love and forgivness, to follow Him without question and to leave all my burdens on Him, as no one else has the power to do this this.
I also really like: "The Bible says God would rather you be hot (serving God) or cold (serving the Devil), not lukewarm (trying to serve God while still being a part of the world). A man cannot serve two masters."
Its so very true, id like to think I know God, but i am struggling with sin at the moment as does everyone. There has not been a time in my life where i have been so devoted to God as i am now, so i believe with all my heart He is helping me to remove the sin between us, so that i may know Him.
Thank you so much for sharing this, it has really moved me! I will keep these words close to my heart.
God Bless.
by making the for all intensive purposes a 'bet' with the devil i have battled with this but it always comes across to me (and i have studied the original text) that we are nothing more than pawns...and its this i find hard to swallow.
i love god and believe that jesus died for me and for a long time would have done anything for him, but my life experiences and this book (along with others really test my faith and trust in him sometimes
i have been through many things in my life that was more than i could handle including 3 mental breakdowns because of it
You did point out a good subject. When you serve God you will go through stuffs. You also have to be ready sacrifice a lot of things you enjoy doing.
As long as that "fun" isn't contrary to the word of God, or if you put something in higher priority than God.
